Show Notes

Music has the transformative power to bring us healing and connection. Welcome to the Moon Piper Podcast, where music is our love language. I’m your host, Grace Piper Fields. Are you trying to break into the music industry? Join us as we talk to songwriters, musicians, and other creatives in the entertainment business who are on a journey to share their gifts with the world. Hello and welcome! Thank you so much for listening to episode one of the Moon Piper Podcast. This is going to be a short solo episode where I discuss what you can expect from this show and tell you a little bit about myself. On this podcast, we are not focused on analyzing the latest hit song. Instead, we are centering on the creators- the songwriters, musicians, and innovators who are shaping the future of music and entertainment. Through the Moon Piper Podcast, we are bringing these conversations to you so you can form connections in this community.

Diving into a vast array of musical genres, the individuals you encounter here will have diverse backgrounds and be at different places in their careers. In a world with so much division, this is a place of unity. Music has the ability to break down barriers, and here on The Moon Piper Podcast, we will be talking about the ways we find connection through the universal language of music. If you are interested in being part of the conversation and being featured on the podcast, you can email me at gpf@moonpiperproductions.com. I can’t wait to have meaningful discussions and meet new people who love to talk about my favorite subject, music.

As your host, I would like to tell you more about myself so that you know the background and perspective I’m coming from. As I mentioned, my name is Grace Piper Fields, otherwise known as GPF, and I’m a singer, songwriter, playwright, and creative entrepreneur. I am currently a student at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, where I am majoring in Songwriting and minoring in Theatre. I believe that as a part of the music and entertainment industry, we are influencers of culture, which is a serious responsibility. Music meets us where we are. It’s a part of our greatest life celebrations and is with us on our loneliest dark night of the soul. Sometimes, when all else fails, it’s music that is there for us. Realizing the importance of music in our lives, I recently founded a company called Moon Piper Productions, whose mission is to connect people through original musicals and immersive concert experiences. On this podcast, you will also hear updates about our current projects. Our first project is bringing Lorene’s Reverie, an original musical, to the stage in Kansas City this summer. This show, where the lines blur between reality and fantasy, is based on the diaries of my great-grandmother, Lorene. As the book writer, lyricist, and composer, I am so excited to introduce the full version of this show, which now includes aerial arts. A condensed version premiered at Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, Kansas in April 2023. I will be talking more about Lorene’s Reverie in upcoming podcasts, but also want to tell you more about my philosophy, background, and original music.

I grew up in Leawood, Kansas, which is a suburb of Kansas City. My close-knit family instilled in me a love of exploring and expressing myself creatively. We travel the world as an intergenerational group, embark on an array of creative projects ranging from making a life-size tree costume to up-cycling thrift store clothes, and love spending weekends in our family retreat tucked in the trees. From great-grandparents to new babies and even one large and friendly golden doodle, the four generations of our family can be found playing board games or cards, doing puzzles, star gazing, or having philosophical conversations by the fire or on the screened-in porch. I have two amazing older sisters and two mischievous cats. One of my sisters is an artist and hand lettering specialist for Hallmark Cards, and my other sister is an innovative and inspiring third-grade teacher. We come from a long line of people who believe that ordinary people can do extraordinary things. Our parents gave us the opportunity and support to forge our own path. I think the greatest freedom is focusing on creating rather than competing. When we focus on creating, we can take the emphasis out of the outcome and think more about expressing our potential. I live by the approach of consistently taking small steps to advance towards a goal. These are topics we can dive into deeper in upcoming podcasts. We will also talk with other guests about the vulnerability of putting personal work into the world. I've been performing on stage since age five and writing music since age eight. After many years, I have learned that both experimentation and failure lead to growth and discovery. I look forward to having conversations with other musicians about their philosophy and how they are making their dreams a reality.

I describe myself as a modern romantic with a twist of theatrics. Challenging the boundaries of pop, my music is both timeless and futuristic, expressing my curiosity for finding the beauty in the broken and the universal in the non-conforming. I strive to connect people through poetic storytelling. My most recent release, "Sweet Like Butterscotch" (produced by Max Dory) was selected for GRAMMY U’s December playlist, "Sleigh All Day." My original music is available on Spotify or wherever you stream music. You can find more about me and my music at gracepiperfields.com or follow me on Instagram @gracepiperfields. I also post on my blog about some of my other favorite topics, including fashion, travel, and college life. In the next episode, we will chat with singer/songwriter Gabriella Pasqua originally from Southern New Jersey and now based in Nashville. Gabriella’s music is a mix of folk and Americana with old-school country influences. After winning a national songwriting competition, she began her career as a recording artist. Aside from writing and performing music, Gabriella has appeared in television commercials, films, and voice-over projects.  Subscribe to this podcast so you never miss an episode.
